Great video, and I love the part about controlling the laughter. That's quite a power to have, and also a great feeling knowing you can do such a thing to an entire audience.
That video definitely sold me on the book. Wait, I already bought it. SO WHO HAS THE CONTROL NOW?
I remember some if this from reading your book John. And I thinks it's a good thing that you've written it as this is an extraordinary period in American comedy. I look even farther back at the days of The Rat Pack and wonder what it must have been like to be inside of that. I have to wonder if the scene for the new comics today is the same.
The rat pack must have been awesome. There is a great book about the period before my generation of comics. Actually two periods before. The original version of "The Last Laugh." Not the amended version with new stuff, is a great book.
That's the hard part spreading it around. Not my strongest suit. I always feel like I'm bothering someone one. The editor who cut that piece and the Director of Photography who shot it, was the same guys who did my film, "The Last Request." Great guys and super talented.
You know, I don't think of it that way. I think that I was lucky to be part of those wonderful early years. Still the best part of my life. Larry David and I emailed each other several times during the Yankee game last night, complaining even though they won. That was like a typical conversation with us.
Thanks Pat, you're always so helpful and even though you're not a nice person and everyone here hates you so much. I mean you're really hated by everyone. Right, people?
Yes, I was known for that spot. On the way to San Diego last year with Larry David, an old comic friend, Bob Shaw, called. LD said, "Guess who's with me in the car." Shaw said, "Give me a hint." and LD said, "the 920 spot." And shaw's response was. "DeBellis."
nice...cool video man..you sell yourself well in this...um, you been in stand up since i was 2...smiles.
ReplyDeleteSince you were two. I bet you were still more mature than me back then.
DeleteReally a good video. I like the way you explain a comic not liking being laughed at but being a comic, you can control the laughter.
ReplyDeleteThat was told to me by the Alan Lefkowitz the shrink who help more comedians than any sane man should have been allowed to help.

You have the control. Write a review on Amazon. You never win the entire audience. If you get 70 to 80% percent you are killing.

DeleteAwesome video, get that spread around and tons of books will have to be sold, if you haven't sold tons already.

ReplyDeleteYou do a great interview, best of luck with the book sales!
