Recent Trip With Larry David

I had asked Larry what to wear because even though he seems like he’s being sucked into a whirlpool of obsessive thought, he is, of course, simultaneously on the lookout for any fault he can find in a friend, so he can shine a spot light on it, and point it out in the most embarrassing manner. The first time Larry saw me wearing an earring he loudly announced to patrons of a restaurant that I was a hermaphrodite and starting the first phase of a deciding on a permanent sex, and he then insisted on opinions.  I nearly tore off my ear and tossed it in his soup.

  1. He's a friend? You'd be better off spending time with your enemies.

    1. If you know the relationship we have, he'd expect me to do the same to him. We've done this to each other since we were in our early 20's. I go after him about being rich and he loves it. It's part being a comic. Most of us show our love for each other by attacking each other, and it's fun. Lately, comic, Bobby Slayton has been unmerciful to me about my spelling. Richard Lewis, called me at 2AM a few weeks, first telling me how much he liked my book and then attacked me for everything in it about him. He twisted it all and it was hysterical. I was sick and couldn't stop laughing. I begged him to stop, it hurt (in a good way). LD is far from a jerk. He's the first one to make fun of himself. If you met him, he'd be gracious and so appreciative for being your taking time out to say hello.

    2. Sorry for going on like that and for leaving out words and misusing some. I didn't want my writing or interpretation of a story to put a bad light on a really good person.

  4. I have to say I did like the fact Larry didn't have to flaunt his wealth on the car he drove; liked that about him. Had to laugh about him wondering if you guys were making good time between LA and San Diego; if you made the trip in 2 hours, that was good time. Hope he's okay with the dog bite; they can get nasty if not cleaned properly etc.

    1. Betty, he's fine but had to get shots and take antibiotics for ten days. It's become a a fun story for us to talk about. We did actually make really good time in both directions. Thank You.

  5. He did tell Bill Maher that you were dying of pancreatic cancer. Now that was a brilliant bit of tom foolery.

  6. in fact it's the forward in my book. I thought it was historical. It was payback for something I did for him a couple of weeks before. My ex wife, of course, called me worried. As if she didn't know Larry for all those years. What made it funnier was that I didn't know.

  8. He's naturally funny and has always been unique. We spent so much together when we were young, we knew each others families and just about every flaw we have to pick on. It's fun and challenging in a good way.
